#8 : Officially DONE!

Hey guys! So the Jellyfish Project has finally achieved its happy ending. Here's the full story of our journey. Be prepared for a photo heavy post!

On the 25th of November, the 13 of us and Mr. Kid, our lecturer, headed to Malacca for an event called the Malacca Arts and Performance (MAP) Fest; an independent arts event organized by artists who invite hidden talents of the world to join in the celebration of expressing art in dance, visuals and many others. We were lucky enough to be asked to join this event, and to showcase our work in front of visitors, other artists and also the Chief Minister of Malacca!

So anyway, we arrived at our hostel; Little Nyonya Youth Hostel, which was about 15 minutes walk to St. Paul's hill. The hostel was honestly very homey and sweet. Literally, Nyonya style. Haha! It was a nice place to stay in for the night.

We then headed to the church, with our big bag mesh and equipment. It was already like 9-10pm that time? Yeah, we started late at night man! We met a few of the crew members, the producer and artists for the event, said our hellos and then began the installation!

The site was a heritage building so we had to analyze the walls for points of support for the installation.

Tying loops onto existing nails! Yuan Li, our professional knot tier!

Photobucket
We were seriously improvising with the thread. Find anything that can be of any use as support, ANYTHING! Peace. ^^v

Aden, dancing and sewing?

Fooling around. Looks like mushrooms from "Avatar" don't you think?

Almost done! Mending some jelly fish.

This was taken at 3:16am! When we were done hanging the installation. Those smiles are masking some seriously cranky and sleepy expressions. The photo kind of reminds you of an ice cave doesn't it?

We then left the church, had some roti canai then headed back to the hotel for some shut eye before another day's worth of work.

After a few hours of rest and a good and refreshing shower, we headed back to the church; with eye bags on each face, mind you. Work commenced once again! We touched up the installation, made modulars for the teaser and also adjusted the lighting provided by the organizers.

March of the zombie. Twas a good morning! :D

This ladder was a real life hazard! Yuan Li injured her leg and it swelled up like mad after the ladder suddenly fell over because of it's broken locks. We were lucky she only had a swollen foot! It could've been worse.

And then, an opportunity to play with colour, light and shadow was given to us and tis one that should NOT be missed. Being able to manipulate light just by how it is directed, casting shadows, making silhouttes, makes a HUGE difference!

Hehe having some fun. :D

We were then officially done with everything! It was about 3pm when everything was done, and we then realized that we hadn't eaten so we paid a visit to Jonker Street for some Peranakan food, Baba Nyonya laksa and cendol! We also visited another exhibition room behind Jonker Street which displayed works from NUS, UM and many others.

After some loitering, we headed back to the church for the grand opening and the final reveal of our installation. The jellyfish look best at night because the colours and shadows are much clearer!

Here's a video I made to show the changing of colours and the over all atmosphere of the whole thing; along with the soundtrack that was chosen to compliment our work and which was composed by a Spanish artist names Frank Gonzales. This is dedicated to all the members of the team and our lecturer, Mr. Kid!

Hope you enjoyed reading our updates and thanks for supporting us throughout the journey!

HELLO! Our last and final day of making the installation is finally over! And yes, we're officially done with our work! WOO! After 5 days of sewing, sewing, sewing, we've made 2 big installations, which will be hung in St. Paul's church in Malacca!

Photobucket
2 huge installations! Hooray!

Photobucket
Looking like factory workers. LOL.

Hear the hallelujah choir in the background!

So next week, on Thursday, we'll be heading to Malacca via bus (hopefully) after our exams around 4pm - 5pm. We'll reach there around 8 or 9 and commence work then. Will probably end up not sleeping until the next morning (whoopee!).

Wish us luck for our exams and also for installing the jellyfish project with great success! Will update next week when we're officially done with the exhibition! :D

Thanks for reading and keeping yourself updated with our progress! Means a lot to us. :D

The jelly fish installation has grown a LOOOOOT! All our hard work is paying off. We've just made a second big cluster of jellyfish! Friday will be our last day of adjusting, sewing and actually creating jellyfish because the weekend will be spent studying for our exams next week (booooo!). Right after our exam on Thursday (after 4pm), we'll be heading to Malacca for the installation woo!

We had a little fun in the studio. Sewing for hours can't be good for the brain. Seeing as there was a nice sunset and a nice piece of art to takes photo of, who could resist?!
